Are you wearing a white dress on your wedding day? For most of us, the answer is “of course!” But until 175 years ago, white was an uncommon choice for bridal gowns. Brides were often married in their best dress of any color, and royals often chose something lavish, like red or purple. It wasn't until Queen Victoria married Prince Albert in 1840 that white became a popular choice for weddings. She chose a white lace dress, and weddings haven't been the same since.
